loungewear care
Most loungewear is made with 100% grade A mulberry silk charmeuse. Charmeuse silk is soft, supple and has a fabulous sheen. It is woven in a satin weave, where the warp threads cross over three or more of the backing threads. The front side of the fabric has a satin finish, lustrous and reflective, and the back has a dull finish.
It is best to dry clean charmeuse. Hand washing can be done, if performed very carefully, but this will result in the dulling of the front side on charmeuse. If hand washing use a silk wash product, not Woolite, cool water and hang to dry. A hot iron, no steam, can be used to iron out any wrinkles and may bring some of the sheen back to the charmeuse front side. Some items contain chiffon, georgette or organza. In this case we recommend dry clean only.
Chiffon and georgette
Chiffon is sheer and elegant, with a very slight rough feel. It is lightweight but strong, softer and thinner than Georgette (sometimes called crepe chiffon).
Chiffon and georgette should be dry cleaned.
Organza
Silk organza is a sheer, thin, open-weave fabric. It has a smooth, flat finish is strong and durable but should be dry cleaned.
Velvet
Silk Velvet has a blend of rayon in the backing and a silk velvet plush or nap. It should be dry cleaned only.
Silk Terry Robes
The backing of the silk terry is cotton with silk terry loops. It can be machine washed, gentle, no chlorine bleach. Tumble dry on low heat.
Silk Slippers
Slippers can be dry cleaned. If machine washed, gentle cycle, cool water, silk wash product. Air dry. They are made from charmeuse so they will loose their sheen.
